Consultant Psychiatrist & CEO, Global Drug Survey

Saving lives by educating people about how to use drugs properly.

The more we accept that people take drugs, the more we can save lives. Drug and alcohol education delivered in the right way at the right time by the right people can positively change behaviour. This results in safer drug use at venues, which means reduced impact on emergency services. When people who take drugs know how to do so safely, this results in reduced harm and  improved outcomes for all concerned.. Words don’t change practice in the real world but evidence based policy and people do.

Dr Adam Winstock challenges the ‘zero tolerance’ approach with ‘maximum education’ to aspire to ‘zero harm’. Focusing on the health and wellbeing of people enjoying a city’s nightlife is good for everyone including the sustainability of the Night Time Economy sector.
